Property Stewardship

Stewardship & Landscaping Maintenance

Achieve Better Results With On-Going, Natural Area Stewardship For Your Property

Success in sustainable landscaping and ecosystem restoration projects depends, not only on quality installation, but equally on the maintenance they receive post installation. Maintenance should begin immediately after planting and will be most intensive through the initial establishment period, which could be 1 to 5 years depending upon the type of project it is.

Habitat Restoration offers a range of stewardship services designed to support and enhance the natural environment. Our team is dedicated to preserving ecosystems through various initiatives, including habitat assessment, invasive species management, and community engagement. We believe in the importance of sustainable practices and work closely with local communities to promote environmental stewardship. Whether it’s restoring wetlands, managing forests, or protecting wildlife habitats, our goal is to create a healthier, more resilient ecosystem for future generations.

Long-term stewardship will be less intensive as native species out compete invasive species. Sites that are invested in stewardship will see better results with more dense natural areas filled with wildflowers.

Ecological Stewardship

We're Different From Traditional Landscapers

Traditional landscaping often focuses on creating aesthetically pleasing outdoor spaces through the use of non-native plants, manicured lawns, and ornamental features. It prioritizes appearance over ecological function and may involve the use of fertilizers, pesticides, and irrigation systems to maintain the desired look.

On the other hand, stewardship emphasizes the responsible management and care of landscapes with a focus on ecological health and sustainability. Stewardship aims to create natural landscapes that look beautiful but also support biodiversity, provide ecosystem, promote environmental resilience, and needs less maintenance.

Our team of highly trained ecologists and crew members provide a higher level of stewardship for those invested in sustainability.

Property Site Monitoring and Stewardship Reporting

Site Monitoring & Stewardship Reporting

During the planning stage of a project the goals are determined. Monitoring based on those goals lets you know if they are being achieved. It is science-based, data-driven, and repeatable. This approach produces numbered values that can then be used to measure performance and inform on-going stewardship decisions.

Projects that require permits or regulatory approval often call for monitoring until the project receives sign-off. All projects can benefit from some level of site monitoring to inform the buyers about the value and site management progress.

Monitoring can be used to present reports to boards, associations, and municipalities to show the success/value of the project. We regularly present monitoring data to stakeholders whenever required/requested.

Prescribed Fires

Using Controlled Burns For Extra Growing Time + Better Plant Growth

North American ecosystems are not fire tolerant they are fire dependent. To replicate this historic process, we utilize fire as a stewardship tool. Prescribed fire is not a magic wand. Fire is best described as a spring/fall cleanup. It removes the debris and lets in sunshine. Additionally, it allows us to access the unwanted plants earlier and easier.

Once a site is healthy, regular burning by our highly trained crews will help manage weeds, increase plant diversity, and enhance the beauty of the site. Small landscapes are not burned when a spring/fall clean up is performed. We use the term prescribed fire, because as ecologists we use fire to attain specific ecological outcomes. Prescribed fire and controlled burns mean the same thing within ecological restoration.
