Bloomingdale Park District offers beautiful common open spaces for the community as well as habitat for local flora and fauna. They currently hold over 160 plus acres of open space, while Pizzo and Associates manages approximately 18 acres of natural area. Our partnership came to fruition years back when Bloomingdale Park District required the expertise Pizzo to restore and maintain their natural spaces at Sunnyside Park, Springfield Park, Westlake Park, and Circle Park.
We restored the shorelines for stabilization in phases at Westlake Park to accommodate budgetary needs to complete the project at a standard Pizzo recommends. We continuously steward each of the parks and perform burns on a rotation every 3 years. As partners we create common green spaces for the community to connect and organisms to thrive.
Every year Pizzo and Associates hosts the ‘Bloomingdale Park District Make a Difference Day’ to educate the community on seed collection and dispersal for our stewardship crews to use as necessary or after a prescribed burn to increase native vegetation coverage, density, and biodiversity.
