Crow Island Woods is a natural reserve managed by the Winnetka Park District in Winnetka, IL. The nature preserve is roughly 18 acres and is registered as a National Historic Landmark which includes the Schmidt‑Burnham Log House (c. 1836) that is managed by the Winnetka Historical Society. The park district started a stewardship plan in 2011 and was seeking an experienced ecological restoration firm to help with the stewardship of a wet sedge meadow near the main entrance by Willow Road.
Pizzo Habitat Restoration helps with park district with stewardship of the wetland area, controlling invasive and non-native vegetation through hand pulling, brush cutting, and other specialty treatments as needed. While there, crews collect seed to disperse within areas needing enhancement or additional biodiversity.
We encourage every to take a scroll on the wooden boardwalk through the quiet, wet sedge meadow while stopping in the middle to sit for a peaceful immersion of the surrounding native species.
