DuPage County encompasses nine forest preserves, spanning approximately 2,668 acres is land that has been restored to its natural state. Pizzo was engaged in this project due to our expertise in managing top-grade ecological projects. The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County wanted to re-institute natural areas and habitats by reestablishing native plants and implementing long term sustainable management practices to reduce the impacts of invasive species.
Pizzo is no stranger to tackling large projects, including hand clearing and forestry mowing to control invasive species. In addition, our team utilizes selective herbicide methods to support the growth of newly introduced native plugs and seeds. As part of this ongoing contract, annual stewardship has been implemented, along with a prescribed fire every three years.
The mission was to provide numerous opportunities for the community to engage with and appreciate its natural areas. While it takes a collective effort to maintain a beautiful environment, it is the strength of relationships that truly helps it thrive.
