Restore ecological health and diversity within a private woodland along Geneva Lake by reducing accumulated leaf litter, controlling invasive species, and promoting the regeneration of native understory vegetation. The goal was to reintroduce fire as a natural process while ensuring safety for nearby structures and neighboring properties.
A carefully planned and executed prescribed burn was conducted during optimal seasonal conditions. The project included site assessment, burn plan development, coordination with local authorities, establishment of firebreaks, and on-site monitoring by a trained burn crew. Sensitive areas near the residence and lake edge were protected, while priority woodland zones were targeted to maximize ecological benefit.
The controlled burn significantly reduced invasive pressure and organic buildup, immediately improving light availability and soil conditions for native species. The result is a healthier, more resilient woodland that will continue to improve with ongoing stewardship—demonstrating how prescribed fire can be safely and effectively integrated into residential landscapes along Geneva Lake.
