Greg and Beth Wahl own 386 acres with plans to purchase additional nearby farms to expand and restore the land to its pre-settlement glory. Their primary goal is to protect biodiversity and make a positive difference on Earth. Hahnaman Sands Prairie is a shortgrass, sandy prairie with wetlands providing habitat for a large variety of rare species. Hahnaman Sands Prairie is registered as an Illinois State Nature Preserve within the Green River Lowland Section and near the Green River State Wildlife Area.

To help enhance the biodiversity of the property, Pizzo & Associates have helped with controlled burns on a regular basis rotating the sections burn, roughly 125 acres during each prescribed fire. For prescribed fire, we recommend rotating burns to keep habitat in place for wildlife while strengthening sections after each burn for native species to flourish.
