Nantucket Cove is a single family and townhouse community built between the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Nantucket Cove is located in Schaumburg, Illinois. The HOA had a problem with a large amount of cattail and other invasive species within the retention pond. Pizzo & Associates was hired to remove the cattail and other invasive plants while converting the turf directly along the edge of the pond.
Nantucket Cove is a standard 1980’s style retention pond in a suburban setting with turf to the edge of the water. There was as much as a six-foot vertical drop along sections of the shoreline. The shore had extensive infestation with Cattails (Typha speciosa), Cottonwood (Populus deltoids) and Silver Maple (Acer saccharinum). The pond has depths of 15-20 feet and has small populations of mollusks, reptiles, amphibians as well as waterfowl and shorebirds.
The successful shoreline restoration has transformed the community pond into a vibrant, healthy, and engaging natural space that supports wildlife, enhances the quality of life for residents, and fosters community spirit.
