A homeowner in New Buffalo, MI was looking for help restoring their backyard dune. The dune was filled with non-native trees, shrubs, and other unwanted plants that provided no benefits. Pizzo & Associates was hired to help with dune restoration and stewardship of the private property.
Starting in the winter of 2021, site clearing was preformed on the dune. Removing non-native trees, shrubs, and invasive species. In the following Spring, Plugs were planted throughout the dune with a mix of forbs and native grasses, including a temporary watering solution. Enhancement seeding with continued stewardship, has helped the property achieve better health while enhancing the beauty of the estate.
The staircase leading to the beach area is now surrounded by beautiful native plants which not only look gorgeous, but helps stabilize the dune adding in erosion control.
