A core principle of Resource Bank is caring for the community, which is shown by their commitment to sustainability and the environment. The branch location in Shabbona is surrounded by thriving native species. Many businesses have started embracing natural areas on their corporate campuses which benefit wildlife and provide additional habitat for pollinators. We’re happy to see Resource Bank as one of the businesses leading the movement to help restore our natural environment.
Pizzo provided native landscape field personnel to implement a natural areas management program focusing on native landscape beds and traditional lawn areas were converted to buffalo grass. Buffalo grass is a recommended over commonly used Kentucky Blue Grass because of its deeper root system requiring less watering and helps reduce need for mowing multiple times a week to monthly mowing. During the growing season, management of the natural areas focuses on invasive species control (woody and herbaceous flora), supplemental seeding and planting, selective mowing as necessary, and the collection of seeds to redistribute throughout the site to help increase the density of native species. During the late fall and winter, prescribed fire is used as an ecological restoration tool to help natural areas thrive between growing seasons.
The campus at Resource Bank is a wonderful showcase of native landscaping. There is an abundance of pollinators and wildlife, showing how using the right blend of native species provide huge benefits to the environment.
