We have yet to come across a single person that likes mosquitoes, but the mosquitoes within the damp woodland area in Three Oaks, MI were overwhelming. The ground was filled with non-natives that needed to be cleared and the woods were eerily calm and the air, stagnant. Pizzo and Associates was hired to help restore the health of the woodlands.
Pizzo was hired in 2023 to thin the very special pit and mound topography woodland. The woodland was impassable with non-native trees, shrubs and vines AND there was a terrible mosquito problem due to lack of air flow. With the ground cleared, air flow has improved and native ferns have grown throughout.
In 2024, the woodland is recovering, so many ferns! The many types of sedge are reproducing now that there is less competition for sun and nutrients. Many types of wildflowers have proliferated very quickly after the restoration took place.
